A 4-year-old, identified by his family as Ivan Christopher Pierre, died on Tuesday, July 18 after being hit by a car in the area of 165 Wood Avenue in Hyde Park, Boston, according to the Boston Police Department.

The vehicle hit the child and drove away from the scene without stopping, police say.

Ivan was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

"Ivan, or "Ivy" as we called him was the “life of the party,"' Ivan's family wrote. "A vivacious little boy whose bright smile and admiration for adventure gave us life."

The boy's family created a GoFundMe campaign as a platform for community support after receiving an influx of requests for ways to help, setting the fundraiser's goal at only one dollar.

The fundraiser swelled with donations, raising over $5,000 in only three days.

"We are eternally grateful for the support, words of comfort, and acts of kindness we have received during this difficult time," the family wrote in the fundraiser description.

Police have asked the public's help to identify the driver involved in this case, posting a video of the vehicle in hopes a member of the public would step forward.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Boston Police Homicide Detectives at (617) 343-4470.
